CoolCompair is an independent buying-guide and price-comparison site for air conditioners and fans, covering the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Spain, Italy, France and the United Arab Emirates. We pick what to feature on merit, score every product against a fixed methodology, re-check retailer prices at least once a day, and route readers to whichever retailer currently offers the best combination of price, availability and delivery for their country.

2. Who runs it

CoolCompair is operated by Shiftline AI Ltd. The editorial team writes the buying guides, scores the products, and signs off every review. The commercial team handles affiliate relationships under a strict separation from editorial.

3. Meet the editor

James Whitfield is our cooling and climate editor. He's been testing air conditioning units, fans, and evaporative coolers since 2021 — initially out of necessity (a south-facing flat in London with no AC) and then professionally. James has tested over 60 cooling products in real UK homes, measures noise with a calibrated sound meter, logs temperature drops over time, and runs each unit through at least two weeks of daily use before writing a word. His testing methodology prioritises real-world conditions over lab specs: actual room temperatures, real humidity levels, genuine noise at 1am when you're trying to sleep. 5. Scoring methodology

Each product is scored on:

Cooling capacity (BTU or equivalent airflow)
Coverage area vs claimed room size
Noise level under normal load
Energy efficiency rating
Build quality and warranty terms
Long-term reliability evidence (returns, recalls, owner forums)

Scores are then weighted by product type — a portable AC and a desk fan don't share the same priorities. The weighting is fixed and published as part of each review.
